I was asked to sign the Nicene Creed recently in order to be a part of a Christian Home School Club. The reference to the “Catholic” and/or “Universal” Church as well as the “God Head” immediately stood out to me and I was convicted to refuse to sign it, and therefore, forfeit membership in the group. When they asked me why I wouldn’t join, I told them my convictions, which immediately spurred a debate that I wasn’t fully prepared for. They told me the word “catholic” started with a little “c” and meant “wholeness,” as in the whole body of Christ and that in no way was affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. They said I was misunderstanding and had erroneous information about the Nicene Creed. After all, it’s been around for years (~1600+ years) and it’s an historical document. Could you discuss the flaws of the Nicene Creed on your podcast?
