What Is Yom HaAtzma’ut?

Could you help me understand what all the buzz is in Israel about Yom HaAtzma’ut/ Independence Day.
Also, why do some Christians consider this day as significant to us?

Yom HaAtzm’ut commemorates the declaration of independence of Israel in 1948. This year the celebration begins at sundown on Wednesday, May 4th and ends at sundown, May 5, 2022.
